3 Questions to Renew Your Nurses

To strengthen the nurse patient relationship and renew nurses’ energy for their caring work, help your nurses savor their positive contribution to the patient’s experience. You can take time to personally interview individuals or ask nurses to pair up and interview each other.
Note for the listener: Listen with full attention. Ask follow-up questions only to help the speaker draw out more of their positive contribution and only if appropriate. For example: How did you feel when…? What were the conditions that supported you to…? How might you bring this experience with you into your day?
Ask these Three Appreciative Questions
- Tell me in detail about a specific time when you were moved by the privilege of being a nurse.
- When in your professional life have you experienced deep appreciation for your work? Share the event, circumstances, and images that come to your mind.
- When and how did you demonstrate loving care today?
